Customs

Japan's law allows for up to 2 ounces (57 gr) of perfume, 200,000-yen worth presents and three 0.75 l bottles of alcohol (if you're above 20) to be taken in. You can also bring 500 gr of tobacco (400 cigarettes or 100 cigars) duty-free.

Currency Exchange

You can exchange some of your money into yens for Japanese public transport, stores, restaurants and pocket expenses at the airport's banks or post offices.

It's better to exchange big cash on arrival at the airport since hotels exchange up to $300 per person per day and bank exchange requires bureaucratic formalities. Major credit cards may be accepted except some restaurants.

Traveler's Checks are cashed at banks but few retailers accept them. Unused yen banknotes can be reconverted at the airport's exchange offices with enough funds.
